2016 Report of Gratitude

You made the difference
2016 Report of Gratitude

Dear Parishioners,

If you participated in the Annual Catholic Appeal, we want to say, “Thank you!”

Your generosity enabled Catholic charitable organizations and parish ministries assist thousands of people, many in your own neighborhood. This year throughout the Diocese of Sacramento, a near-record number—more than 24,000 Catholic households—participated in the Appeal. You helped more than 200,000 men, women and children—sometimes entire families, receive material and financial assistance.

We may not all be able to work in a bread line, but together we financially supported the efforts of food lockers or St. Vincent de Paul Conferences. Together in spirit, we made home visits to drop off food, or deliver a check for a late rent payment or electric bill that occurred because of unexpected illness or job layoff.

2016 Annual Catholic Appeal

Participation is an Act of Mercy
Annual Catholic Appeal
Envelopes from the Annual Catholic Appeal are arriving in mailboxes throughout the Diocese of Sacramento. They are arriving in the homes of parishioners. They are also arriving at The Catholic Foundation, where pledges are already coming in for the 2016 Appeal. This Year’s Annual Catholic Appeal is unique. The tie to the Year of Mercy is very strong and has been well-received. In a letter to parishioners, Bishop Soto asks “in this Jubilee Year of Mercy that we all recognize that our generosity flows from God’s abundant mercy towards us. The Appeal is one way we call all act on the generous Mercy God has shown to each of us.”

The St. Angela Merici Scholarship Program is a tuition assistance fund that will directly support families in need when dealing with the loss of a parent or legal guardian. Our sole purpose is to ensure that our students have the ability to continue their education at their Catholic school. The funds generated by this annual collection will be used to aid the families in our Catholic schools who are experiencing hardship over the loss of their loved one. It is our hope that in the spirit of Christ’s love, we will all step forward and take a personal interest in the lives and formation of our Catholic students in their greatest time of need.

Bella Movie

Bishop Jaime Soto and the Diocese of Sacramento invite you to join our Catholic family as we view and discuss compelling films that support our faith and values—and fulfill your faith formation hours for the ONE Campaign.

The Catholic film series offers a unique opportunity for parishes and parishioners to unite as ONE diocesan community. “Bella” is the story of how three lives converge one day in New York. As Nina and Jose spend the day together, they share their struggles and impact each other’s lives forever. The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops’ Office for Film and Broadcsting notes that Bella presents an “affirmative pro-life message,” along with “themes of self-forgiveness, reconciliation and redemption that should resonate deeply.”
